Hello all! (bcc'd)

This Sunday is another edition of cul-de-sac-2! I've added a bunch of you to this email because you already participated and maybe you want a little update and maybe you wanna do it again (?). Thanks to all of those who came and those who were cashiers~

I have spots available from 12-6 Big Texas Time (1-7 EST).
The only spot that is currently reserved is 2-3 (3-4EST) for my mother so she can watch the steelers game afterwards. everything else is open
If you are at all interested in participating and would like to reserve a time. I was trying to get everyone to do an hour, but if you want to do more and others less, we can work that out. I know someone may try to swing this on their lunch break so it's possible to have a half hour open. please let me know your availability and what else you would like to do and if you have any questions.

Please reference the last email I sent on Nov 7 Zoom Cashiers For cul-de-sac-2
for a refresher on what this is all about if you would like.

I would like to rewrite a bit about your task(below) and add a little bit more context as we learned a lot from last Sunday and I guess in general over the last few weeks. In particular: I hate plaster, freedom is what you make it, Kevin yelled he was becoming his father and was wide-eyed briefly around 1am the day before, and asking "is it all worth it?" is really just like spinning your cognitive tires on a sheet of tractionless vanity especially when you're 5 months deep on this whole shebang and it starts in 3 days.

Anyways. Sunday we had probably a little less than 50 people come by total who all seemed to enjoy it, except for some haughty mfer in a beret and his wife in a thermal jacket,  but we are expecting to have quite a few more this weekend because:
  • this is studio east ONLY - last weekend was all of austin, east and west, so maybe people are more concentrated over on this side of Austin
  • it's the weekend before thanksgiving and people will probably be trying to figure out how to entertain their guests since everyone's already seen the new black panther
  • people may have talked about us. maybe? idk

Here is some additional documentation of what the space looks like that I strongly suggest you review. Very big thanks to Diana for taking vids while people were in there. For some reason these are sped up but hey more time for you after you're done with this novel of an email.

Your Task:
People will come to the bodega and try to purchase sundries (allegedly). You will perform the role of cashier from wherever you'd like to be via zoom. Here is a rough mock-up of what the cashier space will look like from a customer's perspective and a layout of the space:
Here is the front door with the sign that suggests to the patron what they're getting into. They should have some idea after this: https://3405charles.club/cul-de-sac-2/documentation/frontdoorsigns.jpeg

The interactions we experienced last week were mostly people just walking in, being surprised that the screen was not a video but a real person and trying to understand what to do.
You should welcome them to cul-de-sac-2 or the store, and then identify yourself as the cashier, tell them everything is for sale (even the shelves, but they'll have to pick those up afterwards) and that if they want to buy something then they just bring it up to you afterwards.

Encourage them to use the deli, it can be done by scanning the qr code behind them near the conveyor belt contraption there will be additional instructions on the website once they do so.

Remember that you can be heard in the space, and you can call out to people they will hear you if the room is mostly empty or quiet. We had a cashier talking to her dog and people kept coming back around the corner to see if she was talking to them. If the room does get crowded it will be a bit more difficult to make yourself known but just try to engage the best you can. you are still a presence in the room!

IF and WHEN someone does want to purchase something they should know how much it is because I am putting an actual pricetag on these things now... save you and i some time. I will be available to guide you through anything if someone has a problem and will communicate through the zoom chat :)
Ask them to place the item in the box below you (your zoom setup will be above this and it's on a lazy susan that can spin). Once it's in the box, I will spin it around and there's a QR code for the venmo cul-de-sac-2 which they can send payment to. If they don't have their phone, or venmo, cash will do... But honestly I don't want to lug these plaster things back up to pittsburgh so you can just tell them it's free and it will be *our little secret* as a last resort. once they pay i can give the items back to them in a bag and they can get the heck out.

These are the steps for the deli so if someone wants a sandwich you can say
fill out what you want after reviewing the menu,
come to the cashier for payment and approval,
place it in the conveyor box and it should get to the deli and back to you "lickety split".
We may install a bell if we can find one before sunday to ring when the order is ready to be taken back.

I would suggest that you don't ask me any questions directly. I'm "not supposed to be there"
I would also ask that you please do not make it absolutely unbearable for them, we have to make sure we get good yelp reviews after all ;) .
but also have fun. it's not serious, even if it's a little awkward you will still be getting the point across.

I know this is a lot but I am available to go over anything you have questions about.
Again thank you so much for considering participating in this. Let me know your availability.

Much love,

Jonathan
